How to make your own Liquid Soap from Bar Soap
(this recipe is even from the Krazy Coupon Lady. Thanks Krazy Coupon Lady! We love you!!)
Ingredients you will need:
- 1 cup Grated Bar Soap Flakes
- 10 cups Water
- 1 Tbsp Glycerin*
Other Items you will need for this project:
- Cheese Grater
- Large Pot
- Spatula
- Left over Soap Container with pump
- Container for Extras
- Funnel
Directions: Grate the Soap; you will need about 1 bar to get 1 cup of flakes. In a large pot, combine 1 cup soap flakes, 10 cups water, and 1 tablespoon glycerin. Turn on medium-low heat and stir until the soap dissolves. This should only take about 2 minutes. Take off heat and let it cool completely. Once it’s cool, use the funnel to put the liquid soap into your container. Now, enjoy your super frugal soap!
*Glycerin can be purchased at craft stores (Michaels, etc) or at many drugstores and supercenters. Ask at the pharmacy. (Remember, Michaels has a coupon in the Sunday paper every week for 40%-50% off a single item. The 2 lb Glycerin block retails for $10. With the coupon, around $5-$6.)
Now, I just made this recipe last week and I used the Melt and Pour Glycerin block. If you do something like what I did, you'll need to add some kind of essential oil for a scent. Otherwise, if you use a Lever 2000, Ivory, Dial, etc. Those are already scented to some degree. Additional scents are unnecessary. I also added Liquid Glycerin, adding the color and scent to about a 1/4 cup and adding after soap is melted.
As always, HAVE FUN!!
